Industrial Communication for Rolling Stock

The railway market consists of three main segments: Rolling Stock, System Technology, and Infrastructure. Within these three segments, LAPP focuses on the first and the part of the second that focuses on trains.

As we deal with transport of passengers and goods, the main features of the Rolling Stock business (we at LAPP call it “Train”) are the high fire safety requirements to protect people and property.

All products used in a train in Europe must comply with the EN 45545-2 standard. In other regions of the world, other standards are required, like GOST, NFPA 130 or CCC.

In order to standardise cables for Rolling Stock applications, cable standards were developed in the past, according to which LAPP also manufactures its TRAIN product range. LAPP has developed completely new products in the area of cables and wires and has also qualified and tested existing products from the segments of cable glands, cable protection, cable marking and accessories,

To fulfil the challenging requirements of these standards, TRAIN cables are cross-linked and meet the highest requirements for oil and chemical, mechanical, and UV resistance, making them ideal for use in the harsh environments of other industries as well.

The cable products for the Rolling Stock industry are called ÖLFLEX® TRAINETHERLINE® TRAIN and UNITRONIC®TRAIN.
