EFFECTIVE CABLE PROTECTION FROM
INSIDERS WHO KNOW CABLES BEST

The brand for all-round cable protection, count on LAPP's SILVYN® protective cable conduits and tracks for applications that require additional defence from thermal, chemical and mechanical stresses.

Whether for indoor or outdoor use, the universal SILVYN® range features a spectrum of highly flexible metal or plastic conduits with matching glands, promising durable protection for your application.

How did the need for conduits arise?

Customers typically require conduits for their cables and wires for:

Additional mechanical protection
Most frequent damage to cables include that caused by friction, abrasion, impact, sharp edges, torsion, and weld sparks
Aesthetics
Organising cables not only make them a whole lot neater, but also easier to find.
Additional environmental protection
Cables may come into contact with substances such as solvents, chemicals, emulsion, acids, oils, and lubricants, especially in industrial applications. Extreme temperatures may also be a concern for some end-users. The use of metal conduits is able to shield electromagnetic interference (EMI), and block emission of the same interference from power cables running within the conduits.
DID YOU KNOW?
#CablingFact

Many lighting fixtures up till the late 1800s were still reliant on gas power.

As the power source was gradually converted to electric, existing cables were then conveniently fitted into existing gas pipes, to offer reliable mechanical protection to the inner wiring - hence creating the premise for “conduits”!

CHOOSE FROM 5 MAIN CONDUIT TYPES
  • 1
    Plastic protective conduits
From PET braided type for bundling cables, to steel wire spring insulated with PVC or PUR outer sheath
  • 2
    Parallel polyamide corrugated conduits
With various versions offering high mechanical resistance, inbuilt connection thread, and in large dimensions
  • 3
    Metal protective conduits
Recommended for the most demanding environments, these are constructed of galvanized steel to stainless steel with nickel-plated brass conduit fitting
  • 4
    Liquid-tight conduits
Ideal for applications where cables need to be 100% protected from liquids, vapour or moisture, these may be constructed from various materials
  • 5
Protective conduit systems for special applications
Versatile SILVYN® range for use in dynamic applications from Food & Beverage, railway and those that involve extreme heat
Quick Guide to Selecting the Right Conduit:

Consider these to choose the right conduit with relevant properties for your application:

Understand your application:
Know where you are going to place the conduit. SILVYN® FG NM comes with a blue jacket for easy visual detection in food manufacturing.
Environmental conditions:
Temperature, susceptibility to oils & solvents, etc. Conduits used in the solar industry come with 360-degree shielding to keep overvoltages at bay
Any preferred material:
Such as plastic or metal
Required flexibility:
Consider bending radius or flexural behaviour
Conduit fill factor*:
To ensure system safety and performance, calculate the percentage of area inside conduit that is taken up by the cable
*Maximum percentage of 53% for 1 cable, 31% for 2 cables and 40% for 3 or more cables
Factors including bending, conduit or inner cable movement and high temperatures, which may cause expansion of cable sheaths should also be considered.
*Based on US National Electrical Code (NEC) guidelines.
Connection thread:
Various threads (PG, metric, NPT) offer different depths and angles
Approvals and certifications required:
LAPP's conduits are available with various protection classes (IP 66 or IP 68) or industry-specific standards, e.g. ECOLAB®

Don't forget to select suitable end fittings for your conduit! SILVYN® accessories such as conduit holders are available.
